What to look for: 7 checks
These are the points that separate a good sleeping pads from a poor one, in the order they usually matter.

For summer, 2 is enough, for three seasons aim for 3 to 4. In winter, pick 5 or higher or stack a foam pad under an air pad.
How do I find a leak?
Inflate the pad, listen and feel for escaping air, then dab soapy water over seams and the valve. Bubbles show the leak and a patch fixes it.
