Best sketchbook: what to look for before you buy
A buying checklist for sketchbook, with what eBay buyers actually paid. We do not stock this type, so the advice is not steering you to our own product.
Paper weight and tooth decide everything. A 100 lb (160 gsm) sheet handles pencil and light wash, while heavier paper is needed for wet media.
On 2026-11-02, eBay buyers paid a median of $25.99 for sketchbook (search "sketchbook"), across 9,000 sold listings. It is a market read, not a quote. Jump to the search shortcuts or read the 6 checks first.

What to look for: 6 checks
These are the points that separate a good sketchbook from a poor one, in the order they usually matter.
- Paper weight70 to 100 lb (about 110 to 160 gsm) suits pencil, pen and marker. Wet media such as watercolour need 140 lb (300 gsm) or more.
- Surface texturesmooth paper suits fine pen and marker, medium tooth suits pencil, rough tooth grabs charcoal and pastels.
- Bindingspiral lets the book lie flat and fold back. Sewn bound books look neater but resist lying flat. Tape bound pages tear out cleanly.
- SizeA5 or 5.5 by 8.5 inches fits a bag, A4 or 9 by 12 inches gives room for studies. Pick the size you will actually carry.
- Acid-free paperyellows less over time and protects drawings you want to keep.
- Perforationtear-out pages are handy for gifts and loose studies, but a tight sewn spine feels better to draw in.
The mistake to avoid
- A thin sketchbook with marker bleeds through to the next page. Place a sheet behind, or buy mixed-media paper.

median sold price
$25.999,000 sold listings · read 2026-11-02
On 2026-11-02, eBay buyers paid a median of $25.99 for sketchbook (search "sketchbook"), across 9,000 sold listings. That is real money changing hands on eBay, which makes it a useful anchor when you compare asking prices elsewhere.
How to read it: the count is the sold-result total eBay shows for a search of sold and completed listings, and the median is from the first page of prices (about 60 listings, new and used mixed). It is not an Amazon price, it ignores shipping and condition, and it does not say what a given product is worth. A different spec will sit well above or below it.

Questions
Can I use watercolour in a sketchbook?
Only in one made for it, with at least 140 lb (300 gsm) paper. Thinner paper buckles and bleeds.
What size should I buy?
The one you will carry and fill. A5 or 5.5 by 8.5 inches suits a bag, 9 by 12 inches suits a desk.
What do sketchbook sell for on eBay?
On 2026-11-02, eBay buyers paid a median of $25.99 for sketchbook (search "sketchbook"), across 9,000 sold listings. The median comes from the first page of prices, about 60 listings, new and used mixed. It is a screen, not a forecast, and not a price you will necessarily pay elsewhere.
Does Nuva Supply sell sketchbook?
Not yet. The closest thing we sell is the Ice cream pen holder, which is a different product. You can ask us to stock sketchbook on the item page and we email you once if we do.
Are the Amazon links paid?
Yes. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. The links open an Amazon search, not a particular listing, and cost you nothing extra. We have not tested any product, and we show no Amazon prices because we cannot check them.
Nuva Supply does not sell sketchbook, so this page carries no commercial interest in the product itself. We do earn a commission on qualifying Amazon purchases made through the search links, and the link labels say so. Nothing here is independent testing. Market figures are eBay sold-listing medians with the read date.
