Most stores show only what they sell. This is the record of what we reviewed and turned down, by reason class and by shelf.

924 of 1,212 reviewed supplier listings (76%) did not pass. Reasons are grouped by class; sellers and products are never named.

The totals

Every supplier listing we considered selling went through the same checks. Here is what happened to 1,212 of them.

What each reason means

  • Different kind of product: the listing was not the same type of product as the one buyers search for.
  • Safety, powered-device, children's-product or brand risk: battery or radio devices, heated appliances, health claims, children's products, knives, load-bearing gear without a stated rating, or branded designs.
  • Not enough clean photos: fewer than two images without banners, logos or overlaid text.
  • Duplicate: a repeat of something we already stock.
  • Thin or contradictory spec: we could not describe it honestly from the supplier's own text.
  • Could not be priced fairly: it could not clear our margin floor within 1.5 times what buyers paid.

Full criteria: the method page. To run the same checks yourself on any listing, read how to vet a listing.

How to read this honestly

These are listings we chose to review, from searches for product types buyers pay for. The record shows our filter at work; it does not rate suppliers, and a category with a high rejection rate is not a bad category. The reason class is the label our reviewers wrote on each rejection, and a listing that fails more than one check is counted once, under its main reason. Counts as of 2026-11-07.

Questions

What is the reject record?

It is the count of supplier listings we reviewed before deciding what to sell, grouped by why the ones we turned down failed. So far we have reviewed 1,212 listings, 288 passed every check and 924 did not.

Does a high rejection rate mean a supplier or category is bad?

No. We chose which listings to review from our own searches for types buyers pay for, so the rate reflects our checks and our selection. It is not a rating of any supplier, seller or category.

Why do you publish it?

Most stores show only what they sell. Showing what we turned down, and the reason class, lets a reader judge the filter. We name classes of reason, never sellers or products.

Can I reuse the numbers?

Yes, under CC BY 4.0 with attribution to Vincent Wesley Couey (ORCID 0009-0005-6869-308X). The same figures are in a JSON file at /reject-report/data.json.
